The Big Test - Saddlecloths, numnahs, bandages and boots

Saddlecloths, Numnahs, Bandages and Boots – just those extra bits of kit no horse can manage without. In this issue our panel members have been testing items that fall into this ‘miscellaneous, but ultimately necessary, horse stuff’ category….. here’s just a taster; the full report of 18 different products appeared in the September issue of Equine magazine.

Hy Wither - Diamond Touch Saddle Pad. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
HY Wither - Diamond Touch Saddle Pad

The company says: Luxurious pad, combining a perfect fit with a look of glamour. A high wither and a clear spine with ¾” diamond pattern, complimented with a border braiding of rope and diamante crystals. Machine washable. Navy, White, Black, Brilliant Blue or Ombre Grey. Sizes: Cob/Full. RRP: £35.00. www.Hy-Equestrian.com

Our tester, Pippa Hahn, says: Well, this would not have been something I would have personally chosen as I don't feel as though I have horses with particularly high withers, and I am profoundly anti bling! However, it fitted beautifully under my saddles, not moving at all and I’m surprised to admit, the diamanté is quite tasteful. It washed well and I have checked that they do come minus the bling if you want!

Hy ImpACT - Brushing Boots.

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
HY Impact – Brushing Boots

The company says: Perfect for protecting your horse’s legs against any knocks and bumps when being worked or during turnout. Lightweight and flexible. They have a tough padded, moulded synthetic strike pad on the inside which provides protection against injury. Affordable and perfect for everyday use, sold in pairs. White, Pink, Purple, Navy, Black or Brown. RRP: £17.00. www.Hy-Equestrian.com

Our tester, Pam Harrison, says: These are the easiest brushing boots to put on and take off, are lightweight and the large size I was sent fitted a big-boned sport horse well. The symmetrical shape means they fit any leg, so no checking whether they’re for left to right side as is the case with some brands. Double width touch and close strap covers both under straps, ensuring a strong, secure fastening. I was sent white ones, so great for training or competition warm up. Good protection, no slipping, wash well – and the price is amazing!
