2020 Northern Stallion Showcase Set To Attract Leading Stallions

The largest equine breeding event in the North, the Northern Stallion Showcase, supported by Baileys Horse Feeds, is again expected to attract around 40 top class breeding stallions for the sixth annual fixture, which this year reverts to a Sunday, on April 5th.

nss 2020 date 820pxBreeders of horses and ponies from across a wide region are expected to travel to the now familiar venue, Newton Rigg College Equestrian Centre, Penrith, Cumbria, for the 2020 Northern Stallion Showcase. As in previous seasons, early enquiries from studs include stallions with exceptional bloodlines representing internationally successful sport horses and ponies, along with successful sires from the UK’s renowned and increasingly popular native breeds.

Together these stallions offer a unique opportunity for everyone interested in the breeding of athletic, sound horses and ponies to view an impressive variety of potential sires from studs around the country ‘in the flesh’. Visitors to the Showcase will enjoy excellent opportunities to discuss their individual breeding plans for the 2020 season with the stallion owners and stud managers. Many of the stallions will be stabled on site and all of those entered will give individual Showcase performances in the indoor arena throughout the day.

Confirming ongoing support for the event, Baileys Horse Feeds Marketing Manager Jane Buchan commented: “We’re delighted to continue our commitment to the Northern Stallion Showcase and will be looking forward to seeing the stallions and meeting the growing number of enthusiastic breeders who attend every year.  Events like this are invaluable to British breeders, giving them the chance to make informed choices for their mares, having seen and met the stallions themselves.”

Advance tickets to the Northern Stallion Showcase cost just £4.00 (with under-8s free) and include free parking and a Showcase Guide giving information about the stallions entered. There will be trade stands and all-day catering.

Pam Harrison from the Cumbrian-based organising team confirmed: “There is a lot of enthusiasm and support for what is the biggest and busiest stallion showcase in the region, as it allows breeders to see and evaluate a large number of stallions without having to commit time for travelling to all the different studs around the country. There are plans to develop the event further this year, and the return to a Sunday date should enable even more breeders to attend this spring.”

She added: “The Showcase didn’t take place in 2019 due to biosecurity risks posed by the ongoing outbreak of equine influenza last spring and even at this early stage, that ‘gap’ has resulted in additional interest for the 2020 Showcase.”
