Introductory Course In Saddle Fitting
The Society of Master Saddlers (SMS) is running an Introductory Course in Saddle Fitting this autumn, so if you've ever thought about a new career as a qualified saddle fitter, this could be for you! The theory lectures will be run as webinars over two afternoon and evening sessions on October 26 and 27, followed up with a one day practical next April.
The one day practical will take place at Moulton College in Northamptonshire on April 8, 2021, when subjects covered will include:
• Tree Design and Saddle Construction
• Identifying Faults in Saddles
• Physiology of the Horse’s Back
• Anatomy of the Horse in relation to saddle fitting
• Safe Handling of the Horse
• Understanding and Assessing Movement and Conformation for Fitting
• Horse Identification and Maintaining Records
• Principles of Saddle Fitting
• Practical Back Assessment
• Template Taking
• Practical Saddle Fitting of a variety of horses and riders
The object of this course is to make available the basic principles of the SMS recommended saddle fitting system to not just members of the equestrian industry, but also those interested in taking the first steps towards a rewarding career as a an SMS Qualified Saddle Fitter.
