Thirteenth Borders Festival of the Horse

This unique 10-day Festival in the Scottish Borders takes place in 2013 for the thirteenth year between May 17-26, supported by the Forestry Commission Scotland and European Community Leader 2007-2013 Programme.

If you have never been to the Borders Festival of the Horse why not give it a go this May? You can take your horse along with you too and go for a guided ride nearly every day of the Festival. This year the rides are themed around ‘Natural Scotland’ with routes all over the Borders giving riders the opportunity to explore many of the bonny and historical places which are so much part of the Borders culture and heritage. There is also the chance to participate in and spectate at so many different events. Why not come to a jousting practice or learn about equine radionics? You can spend an evening with the heavy horses or view the Buccleuch Art Collection at Bowhill. There is a choice of things to do and see every day including a day of racing at Kelso, Floors Castle Horse Trials and a Grand Competition Day.

A medieval Fayre, a lurcher show and a donkey cabaret are all part of the nonstop action. The Festival culminates in an enlightening evening  of natural horsemanship with Richard Maxwell at Nenthorn on May 26.

Scottish Borders Tourist Board can arrange accommodation for Horse and Rider, or just for those wishing to come without a horse. Why not come for a day or stay for a week? Whichever you decide to do you will have the time of your life in Scotland’s Horse Country.
